After the announcement of our VR series, which is noted as Australia’s first Long-Format VR series, we were able to tick another Australian first with Event Cinemas George Street screening our VR film Remember to a full house of industry and Cinebuzz VIPs in the luxurious Gold Class cinema!
The audience was blown away by the new virtual reality medium, swiveling in their recliner seats and craning their necks as they enjoyed the sights, sounds, and story of the film. The entire experience was powered by LENS Immersive and the Australian Museum to bring virtual reality to a full house of filmmakers and film lovers alike. This event preceded The Convergence Film Festival, which showcased the best current Cinematic VR and big screen content from around the world and was developed in conjunction with the Byron Bay Film Festival.
The screening was a huge success and is an exciting glimpse into the future of virtual reality and where it sits with mainstream cinema. The audience response was very positive and opened up some great conversations about the future of film and storytelling in the virtual reality space. Viewers left feeling like they had truly been immersed in a story, and we love this great quote from one of the audience members – “When you’re watching VR, you literally can’t check Facebook at the same time – it’s very much a down tools experience… you surrender to it.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
We truly hope this is a sign of more virtual reality in cinemas to come – and we definitely are proud to be at the forefront of the VR industry in Australia. Hopefully, you will begin to see showtimes for new VR films at your local cinemas soon.
